What is Everline?

In Everline, you'll play as a hero exploring dangerous dungeons and facing off against fearsome monsters. But don't worry, we won't leave you to fend for yourself. Choose from a variety of pre-made characters or create your own custom hero with our user-friendly character creation system. And with our quickstart rule, you'll be ready to embark on your epic adventure in no time.


But what's an adventure without treasure? In Everline, you'll collect treasures and defeat enemies as you go, earning victory points along the way. And when you're ready to cash in those treasures, head to the marketplace to sell them and buy new equipment and items to aid you on your quest. And if you ever find yourself low on hit points, stop by the inn for a quick recovery.

But the fun doesn't stop there. Everline features a linear storyline with multiple choices, ensuring that no two playthroughs are the same. And for those who like a little friendly competition, our leaderboard system allows you to compare your scores and achievements with other players from around the world.

And for those who prefer to play with friends, Everline also offers co-op and multiplayer options. Team up with your friends and take on the dungeons together. Share stories and experiences, and maybe even share the treasure.

What formats does this come in?

The final copy of Everline will exist in two forms—a complete digital PDF copy of the game, and an approximately 26-page A4 softcover in full color.

Physical copies will also be made available at some point in the future (likely in drivethrurpg first before we look for a commercial solution).

I have a quick question about the encounters and VP rewards. When it says the reward is "-VP", does that mean I lose 1 VP or NO VPs are offered.

Regarding your question about encounters and VP rewards, when it says “-VP,” it means that no VPs (Victory Points) are offered as a reward for that particular encounter. In other words, you won’t lose any VPs; it’s just that this specific encounter doesn’t provide any VPs as a reward.

I'm really excited to start Everline! I've always wanted to try TTRPGs, but finding a group can be difficult when you're really shy. I'm starting with the demo, but I plan to play through all 3 campaigns. However I seem to be stuck on "rolling for step". When I read through the numbers for the story it seems best to do all of them. Could anyone perhaps ELI5? Thanks in advance! <3

As you read the story, you might come across numbers. These numbers are called steps. When it says to “roll for step,it’s a simple process that allows your character to move forward a certain number of steps, typically ranging from 1 to 4. Let’s say you roll the dice and get a 3. That means your character moves forward three steps in the story. Sometimes, the story might have different options or choices, and you can decide what your character does next.

When you see the magnifying glass icon, it means you have to stop at this section even if your dice roll goes past it. You must stop and focus on that part, just like using a magnifying glass to look closely at something.

At this point, you have a few options: You might be given a quest or a mission to complete. This means you have a special task to do in the game. You might also have the option to go shopping. This is like visiting a special store in the game where you can buy cool things for your character, like new clothes, weapons, or magical items. It’s a chance to get some special gear to help you in your journey.

The demo set is designed to provide a brief introduction to the game, featuring fewer steps that can be completed relatively quickly. On the other hand, the other two sets consist of 70+ and close to 100 steps respectively, which may take longer to play through. They offer more extensive gameplay experiences for those looking to delve deeper into the world of Everline.

Are there stats for more classes and races beyond those listed in the Oracles section of the Core rules document? 

Under "1.2.2.3 Choosing a Race", the last line "...you might choose a dwarf or a minotaur" indicates Minotaur should be an option for a playable Race, but no stats are given for it in the Oracle section of the document. 

Similarly, under "1.2.2.4 Choosing a Class", it mentions Wizard "Classes in Everline include warrior, wizard, rogue, and many others", and "...if you want to play a character that uses magic, you might choose a wizard". Which also doesn't have stats listed in the Oracles (is it the Mage class?).

Are these just under development and if so, what other options are also being developed?

- what is SS? the abbreviation is used in the document, but never stated in full

- is it intentional that most stats have Weak Value Condition from the get-go? Elys in the demo has 3 Weak and 1 Neutral Values. Kinda confusing to have to remember to subtract 1 from most of my rolls right from the beginning.

- For HP—if you fail an encounter, how much damage do you take? Just 1 per encounter? Or is it however much you failed the contested roll by?

- can I use a Value roll during combat encounters? how does that resolve? do I keep rolling both dice for the whole combat, or just the first time? If I roll every time, then what happens if I win and lose different attempts in the same combat?

- if I used a Value roll the previous encounter, does the Stat Chaining penalty apply to both of the stats? I assume yes, but it's not immediately clear.

  • “SS” stands for Stat Sets. We apologize for the oversight in not explaining the abbreviation in the document. Every stat is categorized into Stat Sets, which affect the SC (stat condition). We have taken note of this and will add the full explanation to the document.

It is intentional for most stats to have a Weak Value Condition at the beginning. These stats are designed to become stronger as your character progresses. However, we acknowledge that the balance may not be perfect, and we appreciate your feedback on this matter. If you notice any specific imbalances during gameplay, please let us know, and we will consider making adjustments or updates to ensure a more balanced experience.

Now, addressing your specific questions about the gameplay demo:

  • For HP, when you fail an encounter, the amount of damage you take is equal to how much you failed the contested roll by. Each failed roll deducts HP accordingly.

  • Yes, you can use a Value roll during combat encounters.

  • When using the Value roll in combat encounters, you will continue rolling both dice for the entire combat until it is resolved.

  • If you win and lose different attempts within the same combat, you will need to apply the “Checking the Result” and “Edit the Value” steps for each individual result. The outcomes of each roll will be assessed separately, determining whether you win, take damage, or need to roll again due to a tie. Refer to this: If you win the roll, the value’s tier will increase. However, if you lose the roll, the value’s tier will drop, going from Strong > Neutral > Weak ro Weak > Neutral > Strong. Only move the Value’s Tier 1 level up or down, for example, Weak to Neutral or Strong to Neutral and Vice Versa.

  • You are correct in assuming that the Stat Chaining penalty applies to both stats if you used a Value roll in the previous encounter. We apologize for not clarifying this in the document, and we will promptly update it to reflect this information.

thanks for the detailed reply, sorry if I came off as aggressive with too many questions. I'm new to solo journaling games, and I don't have a lot of the unsaid knowledge of how many of the things work that comes with the genre. I'm giving this game a try because I saw it recommended on reddit and I'm interested in this for it's world-oriented solo experience, as opposed to character motivation-driven solo experience like Ironsworn. I'll let you know if I have any more questions when I give it another go.

I've played it myself and I gotta say, I'm hooked.

I've tried the game albeit with the community copies. It was really good, much like reading a book while playing the game. There are plenty of options and I tried writing my own story with it. How do I say, it went really well?

I don't play much Solorpg after all, it's pretty guided and makes me interested in the genre. I'll check out your other games too when I have the time.

Hey just dropping my review on this game so far. If the developer upholds his words and really publishes once a month, I'm all on board. I wouldn't mind paying more to support you because it's all fun and it's pretty well-priced for the quality. I love the playthrough and enjoy the new mechanism.

Well done with the quick fix. But sometimes the 'game' feel a bit difficult with a certain class, I guess that's like playing with different difficulties.

What I like to do now is create a new character and do a sort of 'dungeon run' and see what's the highest score I could get. Have to really optimize the line, items I'm selecting, and spending my VP since that is the final score at the end. Very tricky to balance but I just use my HP as a buffer and let it drop to the bare minimum to pass till the end.

Maybe you should add a Dungeon Run leaderboard or something, so we can share our achievements. Like Everline Leaderboard for every new book.

I think the dungeon run is a fair point, I think it'll be easy to include it at the end by letting people write down their score, or even a link. But I'm not sure where I'd be hosting the leaderboard at. 

Anyway I'll work on ironing out some more issue I've spotting in the game and prepare for the next series :D
